Vessel Project of Louisiana: We Say NO to the Blue Point Ammonia Plant and Carbon Capture Scams At the Vessel Project of Louisiana, we stand firmly with our neighbors in Ascension Parish and across the state in rejecting the proposed Blue Point Ammonia plant and all so-called carbon capture projects being pushed on our communities. Let’s be clear: these projects are not about progress — they’re about profits for polluters. The Blue Point Ammonia facility planned near the CF Industries site in Donaldsonville would only add to the toxic burden our people already carry. This area, part of what’s known as Cancer Alley, is home to more than 200 fossil fuel facilities. The Donaldsonville plant is already the biggest greenhouse gas emitter in the state. Now they want to build more? Enough is enough. State leaders keep telling us this is about jobs and economic development. But we’ve heard that story before. Decades of oil and gas expansion haven’t lifted up our communities — they’ve poisoned them. Louisiana still ranks near the bottom in key indicators like income and population growth. Meanwhile, these companies keep getting massive tax breaks — like the $19 million handed out in St. John Parish — with little or nothing to show for it. No jobs, no progress, just more pollution. They say this new project will create 100 jobs. But what they don’t talk about is what it’ll cost us — more pollution in our air and water, more heavy traffic and industrial activity, and more risks to our health. And as for carbon capture? That’s just another greenwashed excuse to keep the fossil fuel industry alive. These technologies are expensive, unproven, and dangerous. They use up massive amounts of energy and water, and they lock us into the same dirty system that’s already killing us. We are standing in solidarity with the residents of Ascension, Iberville, St. James, and every parish impacted by this toxic industry. We say NO to the Blue Point Ammonia plant. We say NO to carbon capture. And we say YES to clean air, safe water, healthy communities, and a real transition to sustainable energy — one that puts people before profit.
